Britain is a nation full of dog lovers. A survey carried out in 2022, found that 27% of all adults in the UK owned one or more dogs, equating to an estimated 10.2 million of them! (source).
Those of us who choose to have a dog in our lives more often than not would describe them as part of the family, with many even admitting to prefer spending time with them over our significant other or children!
Britain – a nation of dog lovers. The Portabello Print and Map Shop
As one of the most dog friendly places in the world, it might be surprising to find that dogs are not always welcome in many a British establishment, even though there is no law in the UK that excludes dogs from F&B or retail establishments. Having said that, up and down the country, (for this article we are going to concentrate on London) there are also many places that would be happy to welcome Fido, with some even giving them VIP status too! But which is which?
Of course it could be a simple matter of walking in and asking if you happen to be out and about with your four legged friend, but more often than not a bit of forward planning is needed before you set out to avoid a wasted trip or embarrassment when you are turned away.
Frustratingly many businesses don’t have an official pet policy or make the one that they do have very accessible online, making research feel like more leg work than its worth and all before you or your pup have even stepped out of the front door. But fear not, Twostomachs has done the research for you and compiled a list of the best places in London, grouped by area, that would be happy to welcome both you and your four legged friend(s). We’ve included accommodation in the list and even tell you what level of “dog friendliness” to expect from each establishment as not all “pet friendliness” is equal! Using our guide, its perfectly possible to plan a full day out or even a week in London without having to leave your fur baby at home.

Tips
Dogs should be well behaved and kept on a leash whilst in public (whilst many people love dogs, there are also some that are afraid or do not like them).
Always pick up after your dog.
To ensure avoid disappointment, it is always best to phone/book in advance and mention that you are bringing your dog when visiting most establishments as availability to accommodate them can be limited. This is especially so if your dog is a large one or if you will have multiple dogs.
Make use of the London Underground and bus networks which offer free travel for accompanied dogs.
